ABOUT US

Welcome to the official website for Project Special Connections. My name is Supria Shroff, and this is my Girl Scout Gold Award project. My project is aimed at helping special needs families in the Acton Boxborough community.
Because of COVID-19 quarantines, being sick, being bedridden, or post-surgery, many children have to spend increased amounts of time at home. This is especially a problem for special needs children since they are missing out on in-person therapy sessions, as well as building social/sensory skills at school. Furthermore, the full-day home quarantine damages any stable routine and even causes some children to regress in their developmental milestones. This is especially a problem for special needs children.
For my project, I will be making an interactive, sensory-friendly book for the families of special needs children. The book serves as a resource to parents/caregivers on creating a sensory space at home, providing routine help, working on sensory development with fun activities, and offering local resources. This book will provide the family with support as well as sensory relief to keep kids engaged while at home for long periods of time. I hope that my project will help special needs families feel more supported during tough times! Lastly, although this book is intended to help out special needs children, it can definitely be helpful and useful for all young children.
My project would not be possible without the help of my advisors, Sherry Kenin and Caitlyn LeBlanc. Sherry is an occupational therapist and Ms. LeBlanc is a special education teacher, as well as my GSEMA advisor. I really appreciate their support and guidance as I work on my project!
